ChordXray app showing lyrics, chord diagrams, sections strip, and waveform for a song being analyzed

Why on-device?

Your music doesn’t belong in someone else’s data center.

01

No subscription. Ever.

Cloud audio analyzers charge you monthly to process tracks you already own. ChordXray is a one-time purchase. Analyze 10 songs or 10,000 — the price is the same, and it's the price you paid once.

02

Nothing uploaded. Nothing logged.

Demos, unreleased mixes, NDA work, your friend's rough takes — none of it should ever leave your Mac. ChordXray ships with the models bundled. There's no API, no telemetry on your audio, no “we promise we'll delete it” page to read.

03

As fast as your Mac.

Apple Silicon runs the source-separation, chord, and lyric models locally — usually faster than uploading the file in the first place. No queue, no rate limit, no “your free tier expired.” Plug in offline on a flight and it still works.

What it shows you

Four passes. One picture of the song.

Chords

Knows the difference between Cmaj7 and C6/9.

Every chord change in the track, on the timeline. Pop notation by default — no Harte-syntax homework. Click any chord to jump to it. A horizontally-scrolling diagram row shows the fingering for guitar, ukulele, or piano, switching as the song plays.

Lyrics

Word-level transcription, synced to the audio.

Vocals isolated first, then transcribed with timestamps on every word. The active word highlights as the song plays. Grouped by section so you can read the song’s shape at a glance.

[VERSE]

Light from the kitchen blue.

Coffee going cold.

[CHORUS]

I am still here,

I am still here.

Sections & beats

Verse, chorus, bridge — laid on the waveform.

Song structure and beat grid detected, then painted as a colored sections strip on the player. Click to jump. Loop just the chorus while practicing.

Stems

Mute the vocals. Solo the drums. Hear the bass alone.

Source separation extracts four stems — drums, bass, vocals, and “other” — using htdemucs_ft, the same model studios use for remix prep. Switch between them in the player without losing your place.

From file to full breakdown

Three steps. No setup.

  1. 01

    Drop a file.

Any common audio format — mp3, wav, flac, m4a, aac, ogg, opus. ChordXray creates a project and starts analyzing immediately.

  2. 02

    Wait a minute.

The four analyses run in parallel on your Mac. A typical 4-minute song finishes in under a minute on M-series hardware.

  3. 03

    Play, learn, transcribe.

Click any chord, word, or section to jump to it. Switch stems in the player. Loop the bridge. Everything stays on your machine.

Who it's for

If you’ve ever paused a song to ask “what chord was that?”

ChordXray was built for people who learn songs by ear and want their tools to keep up. Cover artists working out the changes on a new release. Producers reverse-engineering a mix. Teachers prepping a lesson on Friday for a Saturday class. Bedroom guitarists picking up a song they heard in the car. Music students who need the chart and the lyric sheet before practice, not during it.

  • 01 “What's the chord under that bridge?”
  • 02 “Can I loop just the chorus?”
  • 03 “What are the words on the second verse?”
  • 04 “Give me the bass line, alone.”

Questions

Things people ask before buying.

01 Does ChordXray actually run offline?
Yes. Once the app is installed, the only thing that needs the internet is checking for updates (which you can disable). Audio analysis, chord recognition, lyrics, stems — all of it runs on your Mac. You can verify this by turning off Wi-Fi and analyzing a song.
02 Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. There's no server-side audio processing, no analytics tied to your files, no telemetry on what you analyze. The models are bundled inside the app.
03 What hardware do I need?
Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) on macOS 13 Ventura or later. Intel Macs aren't supported — the speed depends on the Neural Engine and Metal Performance Shaders, neither of which Intel Macs have.
04 How long does a song take?
On an M2 / M3 / M4 Mac, a 4-minute song finishes the full pipeline in under a minute. The four analyses run in parallel. The first analysis after install is slower because the models warm up.
05 How accurate is it?
Chord recognition uses a 5-model CNN-LSTM ensemble; on pop and rock tracks it lands the right chord most of the time and the right family (major/minor/seventh) almost always. Lyrics use Whisper large-v3 — generally excellent on clear vocals, weaker on heavy distortion or rap delivery. Source separation uses Demucs htdemucs_ft, which is what most remix producers use.
06 Can I export the chords / lyrics / stems?
Stems export as WAV files. Chord and lyric exports are on the roadmap — for now you can copy them out of the panels.
07 Is there a free trial?
A 14-day free trial is on the roadmap. Until it ships, the two-week refund covers the same ground: buy it, run it on a few songs, refund if it doesn't work for you.
08 Will it run on Windows / Linux / iPad?
Not at launch. ChordXray is built around Apple Silicon's Neural Engine and Metal — porting it loses most of the speed advantage. It's not philosophically Mac-only; it's practically Mac-only for now.
09 Why not a subscription?
Because nothing about this app needs ongoing infrastructure. The models live on your disk. You bought the work; you keep it.
10 What's on the roadmap?
Real-time progress events while analyses run, chord/lyric exports, project sharing, optional cancellation of in-progress runs, and a free trial mode. No cloud features planned.

Stop guessing. Start seeing.

ChordXray is a one-time purchase, from $39. It runs on your Mac. It doesn’t phone home. Try it for two weeks — if it doesn’t earn its keep, get your money back.
